Project One: Outline

These songs bring me joy, inspiration, motivation, and love. I have bonded with different people over these songs and have shared experiences that I will always hold with me. I have post-it notes, diary entries, Facebook posts, and text messages that these songs have impacted.

"Home" by Daughtry

My first favorite band and first CD

Two concerts and met the band once

A song that my mom and I share

Listened to repeatedly when we were moving away from Pensacola to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

“I’m going home, to a place where I belong, and where your love has always been enough for me.”

"I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith

First song Blake and I slow danced to and our song when we were dating

The song I listen to in order to remember all of the good memories that Blake and I shared when we were dating, and even now that we are just friends

“I don’t want to close my eyes, I don’t want to fall asleep ‘cause I’d miss you baby and I don’t want to miss a thing.”

“’Cause even when I dream of you, the sweetest dream will never do. I’d still miss you baby, and I don’t want to miss a thing.”

“And I don’t want to miss one smile. I don’t want to miss one kiss. I just want to be with you, right here with you, just like this.”

“I just want to hold you close, I’ll feel your heart so close to mine, and you’ll stay here in this moment for the rest of time.”

"No Scrubs" by TLC

The first song that Alyssa, my bestfriend, and I bonded on

Riding in the car with Alyssa, listening to this song, we would dance and belt out the words to the whole song

“No, I don’t want your number. No, I don’t want to give you mine. And no, I don’t want to meet you nowhere. No, don’t want none of your time.”

“No, I don’t want no scrub. A scrub is a guy that can’t get no love from me. Hangin’ out the passenger’s side of his bestfriend’s ride, trying to holla at me.”

"Don’t Stop Believin’" by Journey

First concert

Inspirational and pick-me-up song

Makes me want to believe that there will be good times after the bad or stressful ones

Makes me want to hold onto the good feelings and times I run into and let go of the bad

“Don’t stop believin’. Hold on to that feelin’.”

"Chasing Cars" (cover) by Sleeping At Last

Inspirational and pick-me-up song

Relatable; more “me”

Inspires me to do more and tell the people I care about how I feel

“If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world?”

“I don’t quite know how to say how I feel.”

“Those three words are said too much, they’re not enough.”

“All that I am, all that I ever was, is here in your perfect eyes. They’re all I can see.”

"It’s Time" by Imagine Dragons

Featured in one of my favorite movies, The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Inspirational and motivational song

Got me through break-ups, when I couldn’t motivate myself, and when I needed to feel better about some of the situations I’ve been put in

“I don’t ever want to let you down.”

“It’s time to begin, isn’t it? I get a little bit bigger, but then, I’ll admit, I’m just the same as I was. Now, don’t you understand? That I’m never changing who I am.”

“The path to heaven runs through miles of clouded hell, right to the top. Don’t look back.”
