Project Three: Outline

Project Proposal:

For the first piece, I will write a letter to my future child about having depression and anxiety and how to use music to help change and develop their personality. I believe that this piece is an appropriate choice for my project because it displays how a parent who is suffering from the disorders of depression and anxiety could talk to their child who is suffering from the same disorders. A parent talking to their child about how using music could help them change and develop their personality could show this letter to their child or talk to their child with the ideas used in this letter. Since it will be me writing a letter to my child, I will use proper language and make the letter informal. I will be personally trying to explain to my future child that it is okay to have these disorders because I have them, too; yet, we do not need to suffer through them and we can work through life by using music as an outlet and as a tool to help develop or change our personalities. I will include different instances in my life when I needed the help of music to “pick me up” in tough situations and give examples of songs or bands that helped me the most in my life.

For the second piece, I will make a sort of “TED Talk” video about my experience with how music has changed my personality and how I have seen music change my father’s personality. I will be clipping together shots of me talking to the camera, clips from the personal interviews I conducted with AJ Fratto, Kristin Fratto, and Jeff Jacobus, and using background music. I believe that this video will help to better convey to my audience about my personal experiences with how music has changed mine and my father’s personalities. I will include instances where certain music, whether it was a song or a band, has connected to different instances in my life, just as it has for AJ. People suffering from depression and anxiety could then watch this video to see how I personally believe music has changed my personality, as well as my father’s, so that they may decide for themselves if music could potentially help them in the same way. I will also include a transcript of what all will be said and the music that was played in the video. Writing out a transcript of the video will provide my audience with the exact words being said throughout the video and the names and artists of the songs so that they can use my video as a source in an argument or even listen to the songs they enjoyed in the video elsewhere.
