Project Three: Final

Mind on the Music

For this final project, I have created two different pieces. The first is a video that I made and posted to YouTube to help explain a little about how music has changed my life since I am someone dealing with depression and anxiety. The second is a letter that I have written to my future child in the case that they also are struggling with depression and anxiety. This letter is meant to help me to explain to my child that i is okay to have these disordrs and that music may help them cope just as it helps me cope with depression and anxiety.

I have also provided a transcipt for the youtube video, that way people who watch the video can see exactly what is being said thoughout the video. This transcript is attached to the small picture below!

Artist Statement for the Video:

For one of the genres for my project three, I decided to create a YouTube video. In tis video, I talk about how music has personally helped me in my life and I tack on a couple clips from my personal interviews with AJ Fratto and Jeff Jacobus. I chose to create a YouTube video because I wanted to each people through a les text-heavy genre, since people are lazy and would rather watch a video than read a paper. I talked a little about my experiences using music to help me to cope with depression and anxiety. I included a couple clips from the personal interviews with AJ Fratto and Jeff Jacobus to add to the fact that it was not just me that was using music as a way to help them in life. I used iMovie to help me create this video because I wanted to clip pieces of me talking, clips from the personal interviews, and music in the background. The music in the background is actually my brother playing on my piano. The last time I was home, my brother was playing on my piano in order to relax and take a break from the stress of the English paper he was writing. I realized that he, too, was using music to help cope, so I recorded him playing and added it to the background of the video. I thought it would make the video seem more smooth and calming.

Artist Statement for the Letter:

For the second genre, I decided to write a letter to my future child to try to help explain that dealing with depression and anxiety is okay and that music can help them cope with those disorders. I wanted to use this genre because I wanted to feel more connected to the topic than I already am in the sense of having a child who also struggles with depression and anxiety. Having depression and anxiety is one thing, but having a child go through it, too, is a little different of a feeling. If my child was struggling with these disorders, I could potentially use this letter as a basis for conversing with my child about how to cope with depression and anxiety. I also wanted to create this letter to simultaneously be creating a tool that not only I could use if my child is struggling with depression and anxiety, but also as a tool that other parents could use to ty to talk to their children if they are struggling with these disorders.
